Do you think something terrible has to happen in your life before you pick up the phone to call a therapist?

Do you think you need to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown or ever think to yourself…well, it’s not that bad…I’m not crazy. I should be able to manage this on my own.

If you’re sheepishly nodding your head yes, then this week’s episode is for you. It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and I’m breaking down all of the good reasons for you to get into therapy as a proactive way to protect your overall health.

Today I’m chatting about blended families and stepfamilies with Jamie Scrimgeour. She’s an expert on stepfamily dynamics and the host of The KICK-ASS Stepmom Podcast. We have a great conversation about pitfalls to avoid when you join a family and how to appreciate the unique beauty of being a step-parent. This week, I’m breaking down simple mental wellness strategies you can incorporate into your daily life to support robust mental health.

While some of the things on this list might be things you already know you “should” do, with 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I can tell you a lack of these wellness essentials can negatively impact the quality of your life and how you feel (and you don’t get the amazing benefits from knowing without actually doing, lovebug!)

I’ve included a ton of resources to help make it even easier for you to focus on simple things you can do on a daily basis to proactively support yourself and your mental health.

Today I’m interviewing Kute Blackson. He’s an inspirational speaker and transformational teacher who is an expert on surrender. When you think of surrender, you might associate it with weakness. However, surrender can actually take great strength. In this episode, Kute is going to explain how finding the courage to let go can help you live authentically and fulfill your life’s true purpose. I hope you enjoy listening to this interview with Kute as much as I enjoyed talking with him!

Grief comes in many shapes and sizes, but one thing usually holds true across the board- we can feel very conflicted about how to respond to curious (even if they’re well-meaning) people.

Have you ever found yourself on the receiving end of personal questions you don’t want to answer?

How did your father die?Why did you get divorced?

What happened with your job?

If you’ve ever grieved the loss of something or someone and felt like people were asking for information you didn’t want to give, but were unsure how to respond, I get it.

In this week’s episode, you’ll learn how to establish appropriate boundaries when dealing with any kind of loss, how to inform people how to treat you, and how to treat others in life’s most difficult moments.

Today I’m sharing a girlfriend jam with my friend Lisa Bilyeu, author of the new book Radical Confidence: 10 No-BS Lessons on Becoming the Hero of Your Own Life and co-founder of the wildly successful business Quest Nutrition. She tells us how she challenged her family’s expectations to transform a life that was not working for her into one that is really, really working for her. I really hope you enjoy this chat with Lisa as much as I enjoyed hanging out with her.
